Where to Eat/Drink in Aberdeen - Part 1
Tuesday 27th January 2015
With our first festival in the Granite City, North Hop Aberdeen fast approaching we thought we'd put together a wee guide of some of our favourite places to eat and drink in Aberdeen…
The Tippling House - One of the first places we visited in Aberdeen back in 2013 for a gin tasting evening. This basement bar/restaurant is run by 10 Dollar Shake and as we have come to expect from these guys, their hand crafted cocktails are simply awesome! Their presentation is second to none and the subterranean surroundings of The Tippling House are the perfect place to enjoy them. The food here is also something pretty special but it is worth booking in advance, especially at weekends because tables are limited.
BrewDog Aberdeen - BrewDog's flagship bar is still one of our firm favourites with it's laid-back vibe and student-fuelled location. There is always a great selection of both BrewDog and guest beers on tap, as well as an extensive bottle collection and craft beer cocktail list. This bar is also super dog-friendly, which, if you are like me and love dogs means lots of doggy cuddles whilst enjoying great craft beer! The bar interior is industrial chic and there is always lots of cool artwork on the go too.
Orchid - If you are a cocktail fan then you will love Orchid Aberdeen. Hidden down a small street off the main drag you may not instantly spot it with it's sleek black exterior and almost 'hidden door' but once in you'll realise it was worth discovering! Look around and you will spot artwork from local artist Johanna Basford gracing the walls. The cocktail list is extensive and if you don't spot your favourite just ask and the mixologists will create it for you. Our cocktail recommendation would have to be the Pink Orchid.
Yatai Izakaya - Located next door to Orchid this is the place to go for tapas, Japanese style! The menu is extensive but the small street food sized portions allows you to try a few different dishes and gauge how much you need as you go along. The food in Yatai is delicious and the cocktails are pretty tasty too. The restaurant surroundings are very relaxed and the staff all very friendly and helpful. The restaurant also puts on special menu nights so keep an eye on their Facebook page for info.
sixºnorth Aberdeen - Aberdeen's first and only Belgian beer bar is run by the guys from sixºnorth who also create some pretty tasty beers. The bar is just down the street from BrewDog Aberdeen in what has be nicknamed the 'craft beer triangle'. The bar has a stripped back and open plan interior with long benches/tables and booths which gives it a very social feel. The impressive bar with endless taps and hanging stemmed beer glasses looks like it's come straight out of Belgium and the beer list, hanging up above on the wall is equally as impressive with a fine selection of beers from some of the best breweries across the UK and beyond.
The Adelphi Kitchen - Our first visit to Adelphi was one filled with amazing seafood, perfectly cooked juicy meat and Rock Rose Gin. And since then it has been very difficult to resist not going on every visit to Aberdeen! The mouthwatering menu, which is updated regularly alongside daily specials features some down and dirty favourites like pulled pork, mac 'n' cheese and chicken wings as well as a great selection of steaks and sides. Our top recommendation would be don't miss out on the West Coast King Scallops and check out their new Tuesday Night Tray Food Taster which will let you try lots of AK highlights on one tray to share with a friend.
And believe us when we say this is only just the start when it comes to great places to eat and drink in Aberdeen! Keep your eyes peeled for some great offers and events happening in Aberdeen across the weekend of North Hop Aberdeen, it is set to be a pretty awesome food, drink, music and fun filled time…
