The Inside Scoop from our Festival Crew

Only 5 sleeps to go until North Hop hits up Dundee and the excitement is building! Our vendors are getting prepped, the social buzz is, well buzzing and our crew members are busy eyeing up the line up. Here's their recommendations for Spirit of North Hop Dundee this weekend...

Susan & Andrew Barrie (In the Mix)
- When we’re not tending to your mixer/tonic needs at the ‘In the Mix’ stand at Spirit of North Hop (come say hi and try some samples!) you’ll find us checking out the taco offerings from Muchacho, snapping up some purchases from the Tea Green Pop-Up Market, and as for cocktails - the Shetland Reel Rhubarb Spritz is taking our fancy right now!

Scott Madden (Stage Manager) - This is my first North Hop event so buzzing to get involved with such an exciting concept, especially with it being in my home town! Its all about the food and rum for me so can't wait to visit the guys at Down the Hatch for some Canadian comfort food, then head over to The King of Islington Rum Bar to see what amazing rums they have on offer. Who wouldn't want to visit the SLTN Rum Bar of the Year! Also looking forward to meeting everyone from Sweetdram and to try their smoked spiced rum.

Michelle Russell (Festival Director) - Fifteen festivals in for North Hop and I still get excited by the line up for each and everyone one and I can honestly say I think this is our best one yet! This venue/set up is going to be totally unique to anything we've done before...the marquee at the Apex is a great space and I have brought in local creatives Amy Annand Flowers and The Little White Cow to dress the space! Drinks wise it's going to be coffee all the way for me so it's just as well Sacred Grounds Coffee Company are on standby to keep me caffeinated, and I might just manage an Artisana brownie or two for good measure! Having been a fan of Never 25 since launch though I would definitely recommend heading to their bar to try their various eau de vies and their brand new 1992 eau de vie liqueur...

Christy Williamson (North Hop Bar) - I’m excited just to experience my first ever North Hop festival outside of Aberdeen. The line up is completely different so I’m really looking forward to discovering new (to me) brands, in particular The Garden Shed Drinks Co - I want to hear all about their eco friendly vibe! My first port of call would be a hot mulled cider from Lindores Abbey, then check out Kingsbarns Distillery & Darnley’s delicious range of gins (they recently converted my Grandma’s old cottage to use as their distillery!) and grab some tasty adobo chicken tacos from my favourite Mexican eatery Muchacho. Of course you should definitely come find me on the North Hop Bar to say hello and enjoy a cheeky cider or prosecco. See you there!

Suz Bird (Social Media Manager) - Working at a North Hop Festival is basically the stuff of my dreams - top banter, thoroughly clued-up food and drink peeps, gin, beer and food all within one space! The music and market stalls are like the rainbow-bonus and coffee and ice-cream on offer makes for two of my five-a-day. Dundee is my top Scottish destination at the moment too and am pretty excited for this weekend. Food wise, I am heading for Down the Hatch and Moskito Spanish Bites as a starter. My beer choice is undoubtedly 71 Brewing. Gin wise, will be trying some I don’t already know, like Orkney Distillery and Lundin Distilling. Will of course be visiting some of by my favourites like LoneWolf Spirits, Electric Spirit Co, The Garden Shed Drinks Co and Shetland Reel during the day/night and considering the line-up, would be thoroughly useless at my job if I didn’t stop by the themed bars to be able to authentically talk about the rum cocktails too...

Dawn Campbell (Dundee Brand Ambassador & Festival Registration) - I will start the festival with my top priority...food, as it’s always important to line your stomach...I absolutely love delicious vegan and veggie food, so I would make Faceplant Foods my first port of call, opting for the West African Potato & Peanut Stew. This is sure to keep you full up and cosy, ready for an afternoon of cocktails and awesome spirits. Speaking of cocktails, I will make a bee line for the King of Islington bar, because I just love how knowledgeable and passionate the bar tenders are and I always learn something new about rum every time I visit the bar so I’m so excited they’re going to be at the Spirit of North Hop! I’m also really glad to see distilleries from outwith local Dundee - I mean, Orkney and Shetland?! Wow I don’t even think I’ve met anyone from Shetland. I actually can’t wait for this event, it’s going to be incredible!

Zoe Kemp (North Hop Bar) - Fizz and shopping, need I say more? I'm excited to check out the local makers within the Tea Green Pop-Up Market and having already got a gorgeous pair of feather earrings from Caleb Loves Lily recently I may need to get some more for the collection. I'v been a NH crew member since the early days and it's always great to discover something new at the festivals, and looking at the line up for this one there's lots to check out! Make sure you head on over to the North Hop Bar for some fizzy delights...
