North Hop

North Hop Crew and their 'Final Fling' recommendations...

Tuesday 27th March 2018

This is it. The Final Fling. The Final North Hop Festival as we know it... and with just 3 days to go until the festival weekend on 30 and 31 March in the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, we are both excited and feeling a bit nostalgic for the festival-journey we have been on over the last 4 years.

It’s definitely not in the North Hop handbook to do things by half and so we asked some of the crew what they are most looking forward to about the Final Fling!

Michelle - Festival Director:
“The launch of the North Hop Bar at #northhopabz is definitely going to be a highlight for me. It’s been in the making for a number of months; and the brands we’ve been working with (Berry Bros & Rudd, Lamb & Watt, The Edinburgh Ice Company) to pull it all together have been ace! The final drinks list looks epic with 5 spirit serves and 5 cocktails. It will also be the first time folk have seen me back behind a bar in a while, look out Tom Cruise! 😉”

Nicola - Festival MC:
“NH Aberdeen - where to start?  There is a fantastic mix of old faves and fresh faces so I am so looking forward to being spoilt for choice - drinks-wise, I will be checking out the brand-spanking-new North Hop Bar and I am intrigued by Never.25 too! I'm curious to see how far I can travel around the world with Beer Story and their global range; and it will be great to see local brewers such as Fierce Beer, Spey Valley and Out of Town, plus new pals Brew Toon. When it comes to food, my interest and appetite is piqued by Harajuku Kitchen and also the veggie goodness of The Liberty Kitchen. I am sure I will manage to squeeze in a macaroni toast from MELT too…there's just too much goodness I tell ya! I have had a wonderful few years as NH MC and really don't want North Hop to end but we are going to have a VERY good time saying goodbye!”

Suz - Digital and Social Media Manager:
“Having worked on the North Hop Festivals for just over a year, I always blow my event budget on the food and drink! It gets particularly difficult in the lead up to a festival as am surrounded by pictures, videos and menu…this weekend I am super excited about the North Hop Bar, as well as one of my favourite G&Ts, Porters Gin! I haven’t tried Top Out Brewery yet, so will definitely be heading there as well as old-time favourites Fierce Beer, Spey Valley and Thistly Cross Cider. Food wise, can’t even pretend that I will not be sampling as much as possible from every street-food vendor…and will definitely end the Saturday night session at the prosecco truck.”

Hannah - Stage Manager:
“There are so many things I’m looking forward to at North Hop Aberdeen! Thistly Cross Cider has always been a favourite of mine and if you have a sweet tooth like me their Strawberry Cider hits the spot. As a recent gin convert I’m really looking forward to trying out some of the gins that will be at the festival from a classic G&T from one of the gin bars to a classy cocktail from the North Hop Bar. Food wise there is so much to choose from and I am definitely planning to try it all! I’m particularly excited to try a cheese toastie from Melt and the loaded fries from So...On Fire. As a music lover the bands and artists never fail to impress and on more than one occasion I have left with an album or two. The Final Fling will be a great send off for North Hop with so many amazing bars, breweries, food stalls, musicians and pop-ups and I am so looking forward to this festival!"

Craig - Official Festival Videographer:
“Having only had one previous North Hop experience, I have to say the music really stands out for me! The festival is already a great atmosphere in itself, but when you mix in the broad range of musical talent with the fantastic food and alcohol, it's a treat for the senses. An atmospheric cocktail of bevvy, beats, burgers and banter!”

Christy - North East North Hop Ambassador:
“It’s hard to choose what to try first at North Hop Aberdeen but I’m really looking forward to checking out what food So… On Fire have to offer. I’ve been to their pop-up street food events before and the dishes are always epic so I have high expectations! Can’t wait to try their chicken shawarma and loaded fries!”

Susan - Highland North Hop Ambassador:
“The Final Fling of North Hop has an incredible line up - you'll be likely to find me perusing the goodies at the Etsy Aberdeen pop-up market, or getting my first try of the special edition blueberry eau de vie from Never.25!”
