Monday 13th February 2017

What to expect from the #northhopavi festival?

With less than 14 days to go until the first North Hop destination festival in Aviemore, the crew are pretty busy with the finishing touches, making sure we start the 2017 Festival season as we mean to go on! We have beer, cider, mead, gin, whisky, cocktails, prosecco, coffee, chocolates, live music, street food, some retail pop-ups, a few fun elements and more, have a read and see what you can expect from #northhopavi...

Where’s it at, how do we get there and what are the session times?

The #northhopavi festival is taking place in the Osprey Arena at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort, you can see some accommodation deals and travel options here and don’t forget to book your ticket for the late night bus back to Tomatin, Carrbridge or Inverness if you need it!

The afternoon session is 12noon until 5pm and the evening session is 7pm until midnight.

What happens when we get there?

Spud the Piper and the North Hop crew will be on site in the main entrance area of the Macdonald Aviemore Resort to welcome you with your festival glass (yours to use at the festival and take home after!), programme and token - you can use your token to enjoy a half pint of the Festival Brew at the St Andrews Brewing Co bar or a half pint of Festival Cider from the Thistly Cross Cider bar when you get in. Paid Cloakroom facilities are available at Festival Registration and there is limited seating areas within the festival but it has been set up for you to wander around, explore the bars and stands, socialise, and have some fun!

Meet the breweries and bars at the #northhopavi festival

The North Hop crew are hell bent on brewing up the perfect festival, so the booze lovers amongst you will find beer, cider, mead, gin, vodka, whisky, cocktails and prosecco on offer! And for the non-drinkers (or those wanting a break between tipples) we will have delicious artisan teas and coffees from Linton & Co., fresh apple juice from Thistly Cross Cider, and some bars will be offering non-alcoholic options (just ask at the individual bars). You will also find fresh drinking water available at designated stations.

Our breweries are: Thistly Cross Cider (makers of our Festival Cider), Wooha Brewing Co, St Andrews Brewing Co (makers of our Festival Brew), Two Thirsty Men, Beehive Brae, Cairngorm Brewery and the Loch Ness Brewery.

Our bars are: Dunnet Bay Distillers (makers of our Festival Gin), Tomatin by Bars R Us, Poco Prosecco, Inshriach Gin and Caorunn Gin.

And when we get hungry?

We have delicious street food offerings onsite from Aye Love Real Food, Macdonald Aviemore Resort, La Tortilla Asesina and ShrimpWreck. Vegetarian and Vegan options are also available from some of the vendors.

But what about the music!

No festival is complete without the music and #northhopavi festival goers are in for a treat:

Afternoon session welcomes: Josephine Sillars, Carma, Nicky Aiken and Footerin’ Aboot.

The evening session set list includes: Hollie Atkinson, Moteh & Friends, Michael Cassidy and Dr Wook & The Voltaic Disorder.

And just when you think we’re done…

… we’re not! Here’s what else you can expect to see at the North Hop Aviemore Festival:

Retro Photo Booth Caravan (Audrey) from Betty Booth, a fun Beer Garden Games area, market trading stalls Caithness Chocolate and Linton & Co., and pop-up shops from House of Harris Tweed (afternoon session only) and Dapper and Coo (evening session only).

And did we mention our special Festival Brew from St Andrews Brewing Co, Festival Cider from Thistly Cross Cider and unique Festival Rock Rose Gin from Dunnet Bay Distillers?!

Any last minute things we should know?

Yes! Special Hop Sessions will run at various times throughout the festival too - times and location (within the MacDonald Aviemore Resort) will be announced via the social media channels soon and sign-up (first come, first served) will take place at Festival Registration once you get your wristband.

And lastly, all bars and stands are operated on a cash basis and no token system is in place (apart from the welcome drink token). The nearest cash machine is located around a 10 minute walk away from the resort.

See you in Aviemore!
