Making a Weekend of It for Spirit of North Hop Dundee

Sunday 11th November 2018

With less than 2 weeks to go until the North Hop crew hits up Dundee for Spirit of North Hop we thought we'd give you some tips on making a weekend of it for the festival. Dundee has some amazing businesses for you to check out and has great transport connections so that you can really kick back and enjoy!

Getting There/Away: If you're travelling to Dundee from out with the city you'll be glad to hear that getting there/away and getting around the city is very easy! Both the rail and bus stations are only about a 5/10 minute walk away from Apex Hotel where the festival will be taking place and most main attractions and bar/restaurants are also within walking distance or if you want to save your energy for eating/drinking/dancing then a short taxi away!

Staying Over: As previously mentioned we are delighted to be working with a couple of local accommodation providers to give you the perfect base to explore the city from. For those wanting to stay right in the middle of the festival action then Apex Hotel is where it's at! All rooms at the Apex have been recently refurbished and all have views over either the city/river or quay, and of course you will get your very own Mick the Duck! Just a short walk away housed in a stunning old jute factory is Hotel Indigo Dundee. Having stayed here a few times we can definitely recommend it for great hospitality, lovely rooms and great cocktails in Daisy Tasker, their onsite bar/restaurant. And last but not least Urban Quarters on South Tay Street provide luxurious apartments with lots of home comforts and that's where you'll find our festival crew! UQ will also have a super-funky Urban Lounge pop-up at the festival so keep your eyes peeled for that...

Festival Pre/After/After After & Post Parties: Just one big-ass festival in a weekend...na, that's not our style! We like the party to last for days and we love to get some local bars in on the action, that's why we've teamed up with Bird & Bear for the official pre-party, after-party and recovery brunch (yes, we suspect a few of you will need it!!). Different DJ's will provide the soundtrack for each night/day and we've been told the special cocktail menu for the weekend is not to be missed! And for those of you who want to carry on the party after the after-party then 3 Session Street is where it is at for the official after-after party, oh yes! Open till 2am the crew at 3 will take care of all your late-night libation (and food) requirements with a special cocktail menu and boozy banter!

Eating/Drinking/Shopping: Dundee has far too many awesome cafes, bars, restaurants and shops for us to even consider listing here but we did include some of them in our Eat, Drink, Sleep, Do Dundee guide and our Festival Director, Michelle will be sharing her own favourites right here next weekend so keep your eyes peeled...

The V&A: If you haven't had a chance yet to check out the V&A then the festival weekend is your ideal opportunity. Open daily 10am till 5pm and free entry to the main exhibits or a small fee if you want to check out the current Ocean Liners: Speed and Style exhibition. Some of the festival crew visited a few weeks ago for a flying visit the day of our Launch Event are looking forward to exploring further during the festival weekend.

WASPS Christmas Market: We will have lots of lovely local makers and creatives at the festival for you to check out but if you want to check out some more we highly recommend you visit this market on Sunday 25 November at Wasps Artist Studios, Meadow Mill in Dundee.
